Brian Larson is the Director of Engineering Career Services. He is an alum of the College of Engineering and has over 30 years of management, engineering, research, and teaching experience. Prior to his current position, he was a principal investigator at ISU’s Center for Nondestructive Evaluation. He started his engineering career at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company where he spent nearly ten years in various technical and leadership positions.
Understanding Employers; a Key Element of a Successful Job Search
One of the key elements of a successful job search is understanding employers and the basic questions they are trying to answer during the hiring process. Well-qualified job candidates regularly get passed over simply because they do not highlight the right skills or fail to show connections between their interests and an employer’s position. This talk will cover the expectations that employers have for entry-level engineers; the employee attributes that are most valued; the importance of understanding your skill set and career interests; and how to effectively present skills and interests on resumes and during interviews.
