Why Engineering: I chose to study engineering because I love hands-on work; as a kid, I constantly was tearing items apart and putting them back together; although it didn’t always work, I didn’t know why; studying engineering gave me an answer to why, and gave me the opportunity of the constant challenge, I get bored a lot. Studying engineering has increased the size of my mental toolbox and enhanced my ability to ask why.

Favorite ISU Memory: My favorite ISU memory is from my first year in Helser Hall; I did not know anyone other than my roommate, but I came to make friends fast. The first year was full of broomball championship intramurals (many slips and falls), late-night vending machine runs, and many random frisbee golf games, rain or shine.

Something Unique About Me: Something unique about me is that I love the creepy crawlies; I own a variety of tarantulas, spiders, reptiles, and furry friends. I am working on starting a side gig of 3D-printed accessories for reptiles or any small animal. I plan on opening and operating my brand of engine or automotive in the future (fuel-powered).

Words of Wisdom (for current and future engineering scholars): You can do it. You need to believe that; you do not need to be told this or have validation from others; once you believe, you start to achieve. I did not come to Iowa State with a 4.0 GPA, and I am not leaving with a 4.0 GPA, but I am leaving with job choice versus job opportunity. I thank confidence and self-trust in my engineering abilities. Try it. Oh ya, don’t use Chegg.
