Why Engineering: From a young age and throughout high school, I enjoy problem-solving and working with my hands, tinkering with things, and woodworking. One hobby in particular is 3D printing. Having the ability to either reverse engineer something that is broken or create something new, and then turn it into a physical model within hours, is something I enjoy utilizing to continuously improve the things around me.
Favorite ISU Memory: While there are so many memories that are to be made while at Iowa State, like football games with thousands of fans, or the simplicity of walking on campus on a sunny day. My favorite memories have come from participating and working for Adventure Programs. Here, I’ve been able to spend time outdoors with those who share the same passion for the outdoors, backpacking, canoeing, and building skills to lead trips of my own.
Something Unique About Me: When it comes to my passion for spending time outside and for photography, allows me to capture my adventures along the way. One subject that always makes it into my photos is my traveling rubber duck. This companion is always a fun thing to hide in my photos, in plain sight or hidden in the background. Nowadays, I enjoy handing out rubber ducks to those who join me on my adventures.
Words of Wisdom (for current and future engineering scholars): In a work environment, a goal of mine is to know people by their names and not their employee number. Doing so, will allow you to build connections and build trust. Because at the end of the day, there are only excuses for not knowing someone name. Lastly, whether in the workplace or not, don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith and try something new.
