Why Engineering: Engineering is about finding solutions to current problems. Since the beginning of time, innovation has continued to reward society with new creations, from the invention of the wheel to sliced bread. What makes engineering appealing to me is that just about anyone with a plan and a desire to fulfill it can become an engineer. From hands-on mechanical engineers to business-oriented sales engineers, the possibilities are endless.
Favorite ISU Memory: I shared my favorite Iowa State memory with my team for a project in Embedded Systems. I remember spending hours in the lab meeting people who shared the same challenges I faced. This project was the closest I’ve been to making something so hands-on and applicable to modern-day engineering strategies. It was rewarding to reflect on similar technologies found in transportation and military infrastructure.
Something Unique About Me: While my hometown is in the Midwest, I grew up in Southern California and attended community college before attending Iowa State University. Moving away from home to attend Iowa State has been my greatest challenge thus far. I am fortunate to have met many good-natured and talented students that made my transition effortless.
Words of Wisdom: Many engineering students are willing to help you if you need it. Reach out to them and make a friend in the process. They may just teach you something you don’t know yet. Talk about keeping things common interests; sharing ideas and information with your soon-to-be engineering friends is always a great icebreaker.
