Why Engineering: I chose engineering because it combined my passions for problem-solving and helping others into one degree. Using my engineering skills to improve processes, products, and designs to better lives is amazing to me. I also chose engineering because it is such a versatile degree. Engineers play a part in every industry, so you get to choose where you want to work. I’m an industrial engineer working in aerospace; who would’ve thought that could happen?!
Favorite ISU Memory: Countless nights hanging out with friends, all the clubs I’ve been a part of, building connections with esteemed professors, it’s hard to choose the best part. All I know is that I’ve loved every part of my adventure at Iowa State.
Something Unique About Me: I really enjoy learning new things and am constantly seeking out new learning opportunities. I like finding tools to make your car less cluttered, a way to make your morning routine more efficient, finding out what it takes to make the bus run on time. Things that make the average person’s eyes glaze over, I get excited about.
Words of Wisdom: Be fearless and don’t overthink things. It took me way too long to realize these. Put yourself out there, introduce yourself to that person you’ve sat next to in Calc for two months, go to club meetings, try new things, apply to that internship that you think you have zero shot of getting. Instead of thinking “why me?” think “why NOT me!?!”. There are a lot of opportunities, you just need to go after them.
