Why Engineering: I have always had a strong passion for both math and science. However, my initial interests were in chemical, civil/environmental, or biomedical engineering. I ended up going with mechanical due to its broad applicability. This has led me to the fire protection industry. Fluid flow is a fascinating subject that I am looking forward to learning more about.
Favorite ISU Memory: It is very difficult to choose just one. I have had a lot of great experiences here at Iowa State, but some of my favorites include sporting events and exploring campus. More specifically, the white-out bball game vs Texas and camping out for the Cyhawk bball game this past season. I am proud to say I had perfect attendance – which allowed me to be part of the Simon Sez halftime show.
Something Unique About Me: First is that I was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Otherwise, if it wasn’t already apparent, I find a lot of things interesting and exciting. So, something else unique about me is my inexhaustible intellectual energy and curiosity. Something I am working on is being more imperturbable and just going with the flow. I have found there is no point in stressing over things that are out of my control.
Words of Wisdom: I will try to keep it concise. On that note, less is more / quality over quantity / KISS. In your educational and professional careers, do not be afraid to take chances! Similarly, it never hurts to ask. Be comfortable with speaking up for yourself and sticking to your virtues/values/morals. It is very important to take care of your mental, physical, social, and spiritual health. Lastly, Iowa does have its hidden gems, and I advise you to get out and find them.
