Zoami Calles-Rios Sosa
Major(s): Civil Engineering, Urban Studies – Minor
Hometown: Webster City, Iowa
Activities and Involvements:
On-campus: Tau Beta Pi
Outside: Parks and Rec Commission, running a small greenhouse business I started last year.
Internships, Co-ops, and Research: I’ve gotten the opportunity to co-op at the Iowa Department of Transportation; I am currently working on an automated way to contact first responders about wrong-way drivers from on-site cameras within seconds after the wrong-way driver is detected.
Why Engineering: I wanted to find a career path where I could marry my curiosity for how and why things work and the need to give back to the communities that have given me so much. As a future engineer, I aim to work in the public sector.
Favorite ISU Memory: Walking around our beautiful campus at dusk during the fall semesters.
Something Unique About Me: I hold a computer science degree, and I am hoping to combine those skills with engineering to help build the next generation of intelligent infrastructure.
Words of Wisdom: You don’t have to have everything figured out in life right now. The important thing is to start, and as you go, adjust.
