Why Engineering: Coming from a low-income black family, there were not a lot of other students who were interested in STEM. Luckily, my father had a software background from his Navy years. He ensured my siblings and I understood the importance of STEM and its impact on modern-day society. Entering high school, I was involved in the CAD and robotics clubs that were offered and realized that engineering encompassed everything I could have asked for.
Favorite ISU Memory: My senior capstone project. It involved every possible experience and skill I will need in my future career. Although it had its hardships, this was a realistic opportunity and helped me grow.
Something Unique About Me: While many of my coworkers and peers know me as a focused individual, I enjoy learning new hobbies and interests. At the moment, my latest hobby is boxing.
Words of Wisdom (for current and future engineering scholars): Anyone looking to achieve a degree in engineering, please understand that you do not have to know everything going into your major. Prior knowledge is beneficial, but keep your eyes open to great opportunities and learning from others. College is about discovering yourself and your interests. Enjoy the ride and cherish each moment!
